Berlin

This post includes my opinions and experiences of: staying, going out, eating, things to do in Berlin and a paragraph on my stay. Enjoy 🙂

Price: on average Berlin cost us $GB 27 of spending money.

Staying in Berlin:

We stayed in the One80 hostel in Alexandra Platz. It cost around 21 Pounds (GB) a night (we booked six months in advance). Overall it was a very nice hostel and looked quite glamorous. It had lovely rooms that were decently sized and weren't too hot however they did not have air con. It also had a bar however we didn't socialize in it too much as we got on with our room mates so just went out with them. The down side of this hostel were the shared showers, the communal shower rooms were just about 10 showers in a room (similar to ones you see by the pool in england...however once you get past the fact that they are communal they are good showers and you can always wear a bikini like we did!). The location was good, relatively near berlin dome, the east side gallery and a few other attractions (good access to walking tours) however was NOT near to the clubs so if you main reason for going to Berlin is the nightlife i recommend you stay in a different area.

Going out:

1. Tresor (abandoned prison was sooo good)
2. Chalet (didn't go but wish i did!)
3. Suicide circus (Go here BEFORE tresor if you go after it isn't too impressive)
4. Berghein (known as the hardest place to get in...google it, however its kind of a tourist attraction just to try and see if you see Sven the bouncer)
5. HOLTZMARKT (for details read on the where to eat)
- Matrix is a club that is easy to get in and is near to most of the big clubs so can be your back up however even though it has a cool set up (brick tunnels) it is very similar to clubbing in the UK and is only good if everyone in your group is up for making there own fun.

REMEMBER: CLUBS CHARGE HIGH ENTRANCE FEES SO BUDGET FOR THAT.

Berlin is amazing to go out in! It has the best club scene however they are very selective on who they let in (check which clubs are over 21 before hand they do make exceptions occasionally but only to people who are near the age etc...). The down side to the amazing nightlife was the exclusivity as it was bit stressful. We wore all black every time we went out in Berlin as apparently thats the way to get into the clubs (Just do it) and no talking, drinking or going on your phones in the que!!

The clubs change every 5 years or so (apparently) so the list could become out of date very quickly!

What to do:

1. Go on a free walking tour (we did ours from freewalkingtours.com they are very informative and give you thousands of interesting facts, On our tour we covered: The Jewish memorial, the Reichstag building, the Brandenburg gate and the Berlin dome).
2. Picnic by the Berlin dome (such a nice place to hang out in, when we went there was even a band playing!).
3. Look at the street art (Rosenthaler strasse 41- this is a very long road but the street art with a really cool cafe is on the part of the road that is sandwiched by the roads 'An der spandauer brucke' and 'Neue schonhauser strasse', it took us ages to find but its worth it! Also if your really lost they host monster shows or something in the area!
4. East side gallery.
5. Beer festival (if its on! There is stuff happening in Berlin all the time and whilst we were there it was Oktober fest in August!).
6. Local markets/festivals (whilst we were in Berlin there was a street festival at alexandra platz which had the best food for pretty cheap- 6 Euros for a bowl of gnocchi).
7. Victory column (for 3 euros you can climb to the top! If you are not on the budget the Reichstag building looks incredible but for those on a budget the victory column is a good alternative!).

 Where to eat:
1. Holtzmarkt! It is the cutest place with the coolest decor its all outside and you HAVE to go! Also has the best 6 euro pizza however can be very long waits.
2. Rosa-luxemburg-strasse (in-between Memhardstrasse/Munzstrasse and Dircksenstrabbe- it is a street full of cheap cafe like shops! Coming from Alexandra platz its just past Escados steakhouse- at the moment (august 2017) the first shop you will see if wok to walk.

My experience:
I feel as my experience is encorperated in other aspects of this blog so i won't say much. However Berlin was really cool. I thought i wouldn't enjoy it and that i would be board but there is SOOO much to do here! I was very wrong. I love Berlin it has a unique vibe and is really something different.

Budget Interail trip:
We went interlining for almost 5 weeks (34 days). We visited Amsterdam, Berlin, Prague, Budapest, Slovenia, Venice, Rome, Cinque Terre and Interlarken. Over this period of time we spent 19.80 Pounds (GB) on average (excluding accommodation and transport). However on top of this average spending money we did also purchase a ticket to Sziget festival, a canyoning day trip and a white water rafting day trip. Some of these days we spent barely anything as we were on a train the majority of the day and one of these days i got food poisoning so spent 4 euros! Overall we were on a budget so did eat a lot of supermarket food however we could of been a lot stricter and saved a lot more money by eating out less (near the end of our holiday we looked for the cheapest places but still ate out a lot!)
